USA Tour of a Sustainable Bus

My wife and I have a dream.  Touring the USA in our converted school bus RV, and promoting sustainability across America.  Setting up the bus to use renewable and sustainable systems.  These would be scaled down version of what someone could do with their homes.  To serve as a mobile educational platform.

While on tour, not only would we show off and explain the sustainable systems, but we plan on visiting others, all across America, who are using and promoting sustainability.  Individuals, businesses, organizations, and city developers.  Show casing what others ARE doing, that IS working, and showing possibilities for others to do themselves, or implement in their communities.

Right now all across the USA, there IS an growing “green movement” happening.  From people growing food in their backyards, and implementing renewable energy systems in their homes, to city planners encouraging sustainable practices.  These are very exciting things to see happening, and we would like to help show through articles, pictures, and video what IS being done.

We are in need of sponsors and supporters.  If you have a business that supplies sustainable/renewable products, and are interested in us promoting them, by using them on our bus, let us know, and we will be evaluating what are the best options/choices to use.   You may use the contact form below.

Also, if you would just like to support what we plan on doing, whether you are an individual, business, or organization and would like to donate to this undertaking, do so here.

Will Be Appreciated

Here are some of the things we are interested in adding to the bus:

  • painting the bus “Forest Green” using a more eco-friendly paint (is there a painter in the Bellingham WA area interested in donating the painting?)
  • rack on the roof, to hold and support many of the system components.
  • flexible solar panels, rechargeable deep cycle batteries, inverter,  and other needed accessories.
  • larger alternator to help charge batteries while traveling
  • rain water harvesting system, to collect rainwater and use of it on the bus.
  • composting toilet, or small mobile methane digester, to make gas from our waste.
  • for our hot water needs, both a solar water heater, and heat exchanger on the engine (did you know that engines are GREAT at producing “heat”, we should be making use of this).
  • converting the engine to run on diesel, bio diesel, and or straight waste vegetable oil(we are considering trying to make use of just waste vegetable oil, from restaurants along the way, and make the whole trip this way.  Only use diesel to start the engine, and in emergencies.  Or use bio-diesel.  Another possibility, is to tow a trailer, have a small setup to make bio diesel.  Then we could also show and teach people “How To Make Biodiesel”).

If any of you, have thoughts on any of this, please share them with us.  Especially if you know of the best way to go about setting one of the systems up.  If they are really good, we could and would turn it into an article, or video, and share it on our site and get you some more attention to what you do.
